The argument on academic freedom has been going on and on and it is the same as those for the freedom of speech because they basically rest on a similar foundation. Academic freedom is a belief that students and faculty members must be given freedom of inquiry because it is essential to the mission of the institution and that scholars must have freedom to communicate or teach facts and ideas without them being a target for job loss, imprisonment, or repression.
